Zero Tolerance

 

Neuro Power supports the government's 'Zero Tolerance' campaign for Health Service Staff. This states that all health care workers have a right to care for others without fear of being attacked or abused.

 

In order to support a young person with their mental health, a mutual respect between the therapist, young person, and their parent(s) has to be in place at all times.

 

I will always aim to be polite. I am neurodivergent, and so communications between neurotypical and neurodivergent people can sometimes lead to confusion due to The Double Empathy Theory (Milton). This, in very basic terms, describes the misunderstandings that can arise between NT and ND people, due to differences in neurotype and in communication styles. Please do ask for clarification if needed, and please also understand that I may ask for clarification too. 

 

Within my work, I may need to ask difficult questions, or communicate sensitive and upsetting information. I understand that at these times, clients may not be seen to be behaving in a reasonable manner and I will take this into account when dealing with any misunderstandings. Having said that, aggressive behaviour (violent or abusive, spoken or written) is seen as unacceptable and won’t be tolerated under any circumstances. It will result in therapeutic support ending, in a client being asked to leave, or the Police being contacted. What is considered abusive is at my sole discretion.

 

Below are some examples of what is considered unacceptable:

 

•Physical violence towards the therapist or other clients

•Physical violence within the setting

•Physical aggression within the setting

•Attempted physical violence towards the therapist or another client

•Threats of physical aggression towards the therapist or a client of Neuro Power, including any threats that create fear

•Verbal abuse towards the therapist or a client of Neuro Power, including, but not limited to:

     oHomophobic comments

     oSexist comments

     oRacist comments

     oSexual harassment

     oVerbal or written insults

     oDiscriminatory comments

     oDemeaning comments

•Persistent and unrealistic demands that cause undue stress

•Causing damage to the property at Neuro Power, or stealing
