Communication Policy
A parent can email to discuss scheduling of their appointment. I will try to respond before our next appointment slot, but this will not always be possible, due to the nature of my work.
Any discussions about the therapy itself, including any updates, can take place during the appointment slot reserved for the young person.
I may email you information to consider between sessions.
Digital Communication
Online sessions should be in your private home so that the discussion can’t be overheard.
Confidentiality
As sessions are confidential, consent is therefore sought before any therapeutic work begins, to share information with appropriate professionals, such as the family GP, my clinical supervisor, an associate therapist, or social care. This will either be orally, or in writing.
Confidentiality will be maintained within the codes of ethics and legal requirements.

Information will only be shared without permission if it is felt that someone is at risk of significant harm, or if mandated by a court order.
Consent will be sought from the parent requesting support for the young person.
There may be occasions where we see each other outside of sessions. I will take my cue from you as to whether to greet you or not. This is to maintain confidentiality and to respect the confidential nature of our work. It includes the timeframe we work together and afterwards too.
For clients under 18, confidentiality within the sessions means that discussions that take place remain confidential.
The child’s parent will generally benefit from having some information about their child’s support, in order to adequately support and care for them. This will take place either during the last part of the session, or in a parent-review session. A review session can be requested by the parent, or will be suggested by the therapist, and will take place during the young person’s appointment slot. The reason is because that appointment slot is for the young person, including conversations about them with their parent. It will not be possible to offer appointments at other times throughout the week for discussions with a parent. Where information is shared with a parent, the child’s agreement to share the information will be obtained.
Where there are safeguarding concerns, information may need to be shared with parents/guardians and/or other professionals in the absence of agreement.
Feedback
If you have any feedback, please feel email ideas or requests, such as an amendment to a policy. I can then consider these carefully, and update written policies where necessary.
